چکیده

The study simulated different potential breeding programs to design the optimal structure and operational management for Borana goat. It evaluated scenarios using ZPLAN+ software maximize genetic gain, discounted profit determine optimum size of base population a community-based program (CBBP) nucleus. analyzed combinations objective traits in index, assessed effect changing buck doe ratio, impact improved kid survival, determined CBBP. A two-tier based on 577 does CBBP 1,006 surrounding flocks was assumed, where selected bucks were disseminated populations. Combining weight kids at six months (SMWT) lactation milk yield dams (LMY) selection index resulted gain doe−1 generation−1 0.13 kg, 0.58 0.02 0.004 SMWT, LMY, number that survived market age (NKS) born (NKB), respectively. This also generated total US$5.76 over 10 year investment period. result 30 percent higher than when LMY separately 225.7 SMWT separately. addition NKB NKS did not significantly change progress profit. However, further optimization combined by improving mating ratio only, improvement survival rate substantial increase US$11.13 US$15.58 doe−1, respectively maximum attained 3,579 does. accumulated US$14,776 dispersed with unit about nucleus is recommended. In goat community-breeding program, need be an combining least own live dam performance. Essential requirements ensuring sustainability such are discussed paper.

Optimizing design of breeding programs

Beef cattle breeders are increasingly being offered gene marker tests for important traits in the breeding objective. They must make an economically rational decision whether to use these tests. Besides a potential immediate effect in seedstock sales, gene marker tests will affect the genetic improvement rate in the population. To examine the returns in a multi-trait breeding objective a pseudo...

Application of myostatin in sheep breeding programs: A review

Myostatin or growth and differentiation factor 8 (GDF8), has been known as the factor causing double muscling phenotypes in which a series of mutations make the myostatin protein inactive, hence disabling it to regulate the deposition of muscle fibre. This phenotype happens with high frequency in a breed of sheep known as the Texel. Quantitative trait loci (QTL) studies show that a portion of t...

Breeding Objectives and Desired-Gain Selection Index for Rayeni Cashmere Goat in Pasture System

The aim of this study was to define breeding goals and determine the suitable selection index in Rayeni cashmere goat using simulated data. To select animals for increased quantity of meat, milk and cashmere produced, body weight of the doe (BWD), milk weight (MW), cashmere weight (CW), weight of kids for sale (WK) and number of kids for sale per doe (NK) was used as selection criteria. Four se...

Genomic application in sheep and goat breeding

Sheep and goat breeds are selected worldwide for meat, wool, and dairy production, and breeding objectives also include other functional traits such as reproductive performance and disease resistance. In early 2007, the development of next-generation sequencing (NGS) allowed de novo sequencing of sheep (Jiang et al., 2014) and goat genomes (Dong et al., 2013). In turn, it offered an opportunity...

Breeding & Genetics: Swine, sheep, goat and dog breeding

Economic weights for sow productivity traits in pure-line pig populations were derived from a single profit equation in order to provide flexibility to alternative market requirements or production systems. The profit function method was modified to account for differences in piglet perinatal survival environment imposed by litter size at birth. Both the 100kg finished pig and the feeder pig ma...
